Say No to Drug Abuse
In an impactful visit to St. Peter’s High School in the Eastern Region of Ghana, Ambassador Dr. David Rex Orgen, UNAA SADC Region, delivered a keynote address to students, teachers, and staff on the themes of education, wellness, and personal responsibility. The visit centered around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) especially SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 3 (Good Health & Well-being), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities)—and the school’s important theme: “Say No to Drug Abuse.”
Ambassador Orgen challenged students to view themselves as drivers of positive change, emphasizing that their choices today directly shape their future. He spoke candidly about the dangers of drug abuse, linking personal health and well-being to academic success and societal progress. “Your mind is your most powerful tool. Protect it, nurture it, and use it to build a life of purpose,” he said.
He also highlighted how education can break cycles of poverty, promote equality, and empower young people to create healthier communities. Using practical examples and inspirational guidance, he encouraged students to remain focused, make healthy lifestyle choices, and advocate for fairness and inclusion in their schools and communities.
The students responded with enthusiasm, asking questions, and sharing their reflections. Teachers and administrators praised the ambassador for connecting global goals to local realities while addressing the critical issue of drug abuse.
Through this visit, Ambassador Orgen reinforced the message that the SDGs and personal responsibility are intertwined: when young people make conscious, positive choices, they not only transform their lives but also the future of their communities. His visit left a lasting impression, inspiring students to pursue their education, maintain good health, and live free from the dangers of drugs.
