Turn Your Skills Into Solutions
“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.” — Howard Thurman
When Esther moved abroad, she spent years trying to find the perfect job. Every opportunity seemed to demand more qualifications, more experience, or a different background. Over time, she became discouraged and began to believe that success depended on someone else finally giving her a chance.
Then one day, a mentor asked her a simple question:
“What problem can you solve?”
That question changed the direction of her life.
Esther stopped focusing only on finding work and began focusing on creating value. Within a few years, she built a successful business using skills she had once taken for granted.
Dr. David Rex Orgen believes many people search for opportunity in the wrong place. They chase money, positions, and titles when they should first be asking a deeper question:
What problem am I equipped to solve?
Success Begins With Solving Problems
The marketplace does not reward people simply because they have skills. It rewards people who use their skills to solve real problems.
A teacher solves the problem of ignorance. A mechanic solves the problem of broken vehicles. A counselor helps people work through emotional pain. A barber meets the need for personal grooming. A software developer improves efficiency. A farmer helps solve the problem of food.
Every successful business exists because it provides a solution to someone’s need.
From a psychological perspective, many people underestimate their abilities because they compare themselves with others. They fail to recognize that what comes naturally to them may be a valuable solution for someone else.
Instead of asking, “What job can I get?” begin asking better questions:
What do people often ask me to help them with?
What knowledge have I gained through life experience?
What skills do I enjoy using?
What problems frustrate me enough that I want to solve them?
What would people willingly pay me to help them accomplish?
Your answers may reveal opportunities you have overlooked for years.
Your Gift Was Given to Serve
The Bible reminds us in 1 Peter 4:10:
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace.”
Your gifts were never meant to remain hidden. They were given to serve others and create value.
The most successful people are not always the most educated or the most talented. They are often the ones who identify a problem, develop a solution, and serve people with consistency and excellence.
The future belongs to problem solvers.
If you can solve a problem that improves someone’s life, saves time, reduces stress, increases income, or gives hope, you already have the foundation for a meaningful career or business.
Stop looking only for opportunities. Become the solution people are searching for.
Your skills are not accidents. Your experiences are not wasted. Your challenges have prepared you to solve problems that someone else may not be able to solve.
The question that can change your life is not, “Where can I find success?” It is, “Whose problem has God equipped me to solve?”
